Ship Early To Avoid Disappointments This Christmas
It might be too early to talk about Christmas, but it is important that we make our customers aware that leaving your cargo just a few days before Christmas will only result in frustrations. The months leading to Christmas are the busiest in the transport industry. The retail industry would be looking to stock up early. In order to avoid not only shortages of popular items but also to avoid the risk of having replacements delivered late as there will be bottleneck of deliveries in weeks leading to Christmas. In normal trade a cargo ship/plane makes a single journey with little or no cargo for the return journey. At Christmas times both to and fro journeys are both full; trade between countries also peaks at this period.
Christmas is also that time that people in the Diaspora decided to shower their relatives back at home with presents. For some the cargo they send is not only annual Christmas gifts but important items that people cannot do without. They are oblivious to the fact that it also the world’s busiest period in terms of sending goods. Yet still they wait till the 11 hour to send goods to their loved ones, consequently the cargo is delayed. Personal effects in other words non commercial cargo takes second preference when being booked by airlines and shippers. It makes commercial sense to them to move several tonnes for a commercial entity than to move just a few tonnes of non-commercial cargo.
So in order to avoid delays and frustrations caused by the busiest period of the year, it is advisable to book and send goods early. How early you might ask? From now till October ensures that the goods arrive early and there is no panic or frustration, November is okay but risky, December is a last resort and you should be prepared for the fact that your goods might get there after Christmas.
